Comparative economist. Alexander Erlich was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and studied at Cracow and Berlin, before emigrating to the United States in 1941, earning his Ph.D at the New School in 1953. He went on to join the faculty at Columbia. Alexander Erlich's work on the Soviet planning debate of the 1920s is perhaps is best known.
