Robert W. Fogel, 1926-2013
Economic historian at Chicago.
Robert W. Fogel is one of the pioneers of "New Economic History", applying
Neoclassical economics and quantitative techniques ('cliometrics') to economic
history topics that were traditionally treated in the Historicist-Institutionalist
method. Fogel is particularly famous for trying to quantify the impact of
railroads (1964) and slavery (1974) to the US economy.
Robert Fogel shared the Nobel
memorial prize in 1993 with Douglass North.
